My corner by the window in an apartment I shared while at University of Maryland. This short couch was actually my bed for about a year one of those items of furniture that gets passed like an heirloom for transitory living between students. (My head at one end, butt at the other, feet in a foam-rubber futon over the arm. Sounds odd, but it was a great setup.) |

Near Eagle Rock, Virginia. Sometimes used to drive up into the western Virginia mountains on the way back to Baltimore from visiting grandparents in Roanoke. I never felt luxury of time to sketch much on those drives, though I wanted to stop & draw everywhere, I think. |

Another bed, another room, while at University of Maryland. That cat & I got along pretty cozily for a while until she began to take liberties with my limited storage in the little room. |

Ellicott City, a little 'historic Main Street' site not far from my parents' home west of Baltimore. The challenge, when you want to work quickly, is to choose judiciously what details you're going to include. When I made this attempt, I hadn't really begun to learn to do that and I still haven't. |

The Clay Springs Motel on Rt. 301, north of Richmond, Virginia. I pulled off the road and sketched what was in front of me, sitting in the car. Drove this way in early 2008 and noted that the sign is gone, though the motel remains. |
